Lack of engineers in medical technology – from myths to methods

The Association of German Engineers (VDI) predicts almost 100,000 unfilled engineer posts over the next ten years. Is the medical-technology industry also at risk? Werner R. Gmelin from the consultancy and recruitment company Rochus Mummert Healthcare Consulting talks of an ‘urgent need for action’ following a survey of around 1,400 medical-technology companies. Almost half of all companies in the survey reported vacancies for engineers, predominantly in research and development, and a quarter of this group have to resort to lengthy measures to fill these positions.
